Formation and Early Years
Heavy Stereo was formed in 1993 by Gem Archer, who served as the band's songwriter, lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist.
They were heavily influenced by 1970s glam rock acts like Sweet and Gary Glitter.
Signed to Creation Records, Heavy Stereo began gaining attention for their energetic, retro-inspired sound.
Rise to Prominence
Released a handful of singles, including "Sleep Freak" and "Chinese Burn," which showcased their blend of glam rock and Britpop influences.
Supported Oasis on tour, cementing their association with Britpop’s dominant force at the time.
Commercial Success and Albums
Déjà Voodoo, their debut (and only) album, was released in 1996 and peaked at number 76 on the UK Albums Chart.
The album was produced by the band alongside John Bell and Steve Orchard.
Later Activities and Legacy
In 1999, Gem Archer joined Oasis as a rhythm guitarist and keyboardist, replacing Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs.
After Oasis disbanded, Archer went on to play in Beady Eye and later joined Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

Déjà Voodoo remains Heavy Stereo’s sole studio album, released during the height of Britpop in 1996.
They contributed a cover of The Jam’s The Gift to the 1999 tribute album Fire & Skill.
